About the Council for Sustainable Biomass Production and Astronaut
The Council for Sustainable Biomass Production brought together a diverse coalition of leaders from the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Nature Conservancy, the National Wildlife Federation, Weyerhaeuser, DuPont, Chevron, Duke Energy, Texas A&M University, the University of Illinois, Genera, Mendel Biotechnology and many others to establish standards for the sustainable production of non-grain crops and forest products for use in bio-energy and biofuels. The CPSB retained Astronaut to work with these stakeholders and develop a brand strategy, identity and launch plan for the standard.
The objective was to create a sustainability standard in the same vein as the Forest Stewardship Council or the Sustainable Forestry Initiative with a simple, easily recognizable mark that would certify compliance with the standard and powerful brand to ignite enthusiasm for the standard among growers and energy producers.
The project immersed Astronaut in a unique collaboration with parties that almost never sit down together to work on the convergence of sustainability, industry and rules making.
